The Challenge

Education is a universal right, but in many Portuguese-speaking nations in Africa, quality education remains out of reach for countless young people. Consider these realities:

Guinea-Bissau: With a population of 2 million, only 2,000 students enroll in university annually, and just 20% graduate.
Angola: Despite a population of 33 million and over 50 universities, only 30% of university students graduate.
Mozambique: Over 500,000 high school students enroll each year, yet just 50,000 make it to university, with a 25% graduation rate.
Cape Verde: Of its 550,000 citizens, only 5,000 enroll in university annually, with a 40% graduation rate.
São Tomé and Príncipe: In a population of 220,000, just 1,000 students enroll in university each year, and only 30% graduate.
These statistics underscore the urgent need for educational support, particularly at the secondary and tertiary levels.

Why Luso Learn Foundation?

In developing nations, it is unrealistic to fully rely on governmental support to address these challenges. Even in the most developed countries, financial barriers force many students to drop out of high school, college, or university. The situation is far more severe in regions like Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique, where nearly 90% of students are unable to continue their education due to economic constraints.

Adding to this, the majority of NGOs in third-world countries focus on primary education, nutrition, and basic needs. While these efforts are vital, they often leave the young generation stranded during the most critical phase of their development: higher education and skills training.
